Jersey City's Rodent Reality

Jersey City's waterfront transformation has pushed rodent populations inland. As luxury towers replaced warehouses along the Hudson, rodents didn't disappear - they moved to the Heights, Journal Square, and older residential areas. Add in one of the nation's densest populations, and you have rodents competing for every available space.

Why Jersey City?

Waterfront development displacement combined with dense housing and extensive underground infrastructure creates ideal rodent conditions

From Brownstones to High-Rises: Different Buildings, Same Problems

Jersey City's housing stock spans 150 years of construction. The Heights features Victorian-era homes with stone foundations and wooden soffits. Downtown has converted warehouses with complex utility chases. New construction towers have their own issues with HVAC penetrations and parking garage connections.

Jersey City Case Study

The Journal Square Squirrel Colony

01 The Problem

A landlord managing a 12-unit building near the PATH station thought she had a mouse problem. Tenants reported scratching at all hours. Three different pest control companies had tried poison with no success.

Location: Journal Square

02 What We Found

Our attic inspection revealed not mice, but a flying squirrel colony of 23 animals. Flying squirrels are nocturnal and colonial - they'd been there for years, entering through a 2-inch gap where an old TV antenna cable had been removed.

03 The Solution

We installed one-way exclusion devices and trapped over three weeks. Every exterior penetration on all 12 units was sealed with steel mesh and copper exclusion fabric.

The Result

Complete colony elimination. The landlord had wasted years on ineffective pest control before calling us for a permanent solution.
