When Your Backyard Borders Preserved Farmland
Hamilton's appeal is its space - suburban lots that back to preserved farmland, parks, and greenways. That same appeal attracts wildlife. Raccoons, squirrels, and bats don't recognize the line between your HOA-maintained lawn and the meadow behind it. They see 40 square miles of suburban habitat with convenient human structures for shelter and excellent food sources in bird feeders, garbage cans, and vegetable gardens.
Why Hamilton?
Large suburban lots bordering preserved open space create continuous habitat where wildlife moves freely between 'wild' areas and residential structures

Decades of Suburban Development, Each Era's Vulnerabilities
Hamilton's housing spans from 1950s Levittown-style developments in Hamilton Square to 1990s McMansions in Steinert to brand-new construction in the township's eastern sections. Each era brought different construction practices and, now, different wildlife vulnerabilities. Ranch homes from the '50s have walk-up attic spaces squirrels love. McMansions have complex rooflines with multiple potential entry points. New construction often borders disturbed habitat where displaced wildlife seeks shelter.
Local Housing Stock
- 1950s ranches and capes in Hamilton Square with full attics
- 1970s bi-levels and split-levels in Mercerville
- 1990s colonial developments in Steinert area
- 2000s-present construction in eastern Hamilton
Common Entry Point Issues
- Older homes with original roof vents and soffits reaching failure age
- Large lots with mature trees overhanging rooflines
- Homes backing to preserved farmland with no buffer from wildlife
- New construction adjacent to disturbed former agricultural land
Hamilton Case Study
The Steinert Bat Situation
01 The Problem
A 1990s colonial in Steinert had bats appearing in the living space every summer for four years. The homeowner had two previous companies seal 'entry points' with no success. Each June, bats returned.
Location: Steinert section
02 What We Found
The home's ridge vent had been improperly installed 25 years earlier - the external baffle had shifted, creating a 2-inch gap running the entire 45-foot ridge. Previous companies had sealed obvious spots but missed this one because it required ladder access to the ridge.
03 The Solution
Full ridge vent replacement with proper baffling and integrated exclusion screening. One-way devices were installed for existing bats, then permanent sealing once exclusion was confirmed.
The Result
Complete exclusion. The homeowner had tried two failed attempts with other companies before our permanent solution worked the first time.
